    Man shot and killed by Arvada police in Wheat Ridge was suspect in multiple crimes /Link



    An officer involved shooting happened Thursday night in Wheat Ridge.


    A suspect wanted by police for multiple crimes on Wednesday, including a robbery, car jacking and kidnapping, was fatally shot Thursday night by Arvada police in Wheat Ridge.

    The incident unfolded at about 6 p.m. when police, looking for the suspect who they had identified, spotted him in a stolen vehicle, said Julie Glynn, a police spokeswoman.

    Detectives in unmarked cars followed the suspect, eventually to the corner of West 49th Avenue and Kipling Street, at a Shell gas station, where they attempted to take him into custody.

    “An altercation happened and shots were fired,” Glynn said.

    The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. No Arvada officers were injured.

    Police did not say whether the suspect fired any shots or how many officers shot the suspect.

    Police said the suspect was involved in several crimes Wednesday, including at local Walmart where he was armed and captured on surveillance video.

    He was also wanted as a suspect in a burglary and for assault of an at-risk adult.

    An investigation is ongoing.
