Martin Freeman is certainly about to become a busy man, The Black Panther star is set to appear in not one but two TV series; Sky’s Breeders and ITV’s A Confession.

First up comes the 10 part series Breeders. The comedy will expose the paradox of parenting that it is possible, in the same moment, to love your child to the horizon of the universe, while being apoplectically angry enough to want to send them there.

Freeman stars as a caring father discovering he’s not quite the man he thought he was.

Commenting on the series Freeman said:

I’m excited to be making Breeders with a team that can make me laugh while we look at some of the less-discussed truths and challenges of being a parent. I really love this project and am delighted to be working with FX and Sky.”

Created by Freeman, the Peep Show’s Simon Blackwell and The Hustle’s Chris Addison. It will also star Daisy Haggard (Hang Ups, Episodes, Black Mirror).

Breeders will air on Sky One and streaming service NOW TV in 2020.

Also in the news – Ryan Coogler to return to the helm of Wakanda for Black Panther 2

Secondly, just mere hours after the Breeder’s announcement came, Freeman was also revealed to be starring the ITV’s crime drama, A Confession, alongside Imelda Staunton.

The six-part drama is set in Swindon, Wiltshire. It details the disappearance of 22-year-old Sian O’Callaghan in March 2011.  On a night out with girlfriends, Sian left a nightclub in Swindon Old Town to walk the 15 minutes home to boyfriend Kevin Reape, played by Charlie Cooper (This Country). Worried for her safety, Kevin reports Sian missing when she fails to come home in the early hours or respond to his increasingly frantic texts.

Freeman will play Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher, who leads the investigation into the Sian’s disappearance. Happy Valley’s Siobhan Finneran will play the role of Elaine O’Callaghan, Sian’s mother. Staunton will play the role of Karen Edwards, the mother of another young woman who disappeared in 2003.

Written by Jeff Pope, Broadchurch’s Paul Andrew Williams will direct all six episodes.

The series is expected to air on ITV in 2019.
